My husband Jim and I purchased Sierra Moon vineyards in 2018 as a weekend retreat after discovering the Fair Play AVA in the Sierra Foothills, known for its surprisingly vast wine country.

Country living had always been appealing to Jim, who grew up in northwestern Pennsylvania. Once we explored the 127 acre property, we immediately fell in love,soon calling it our “happy place.”

Initially the seven varietals on the 22 acres of vines were leased. Over time, we became deeply involved in every aspect of maintaining the property- from pruning and soil testing to grafting, tucking shoots and testing sugars during harvest. I particularly enjoy driving the tractor for the annual pick.

Our journey didn’t stop there! What began as a weekend getaway evolved into becoming farmers and selling grapes. After partnering with an incredible seasoned winemaker, Matt Piagari it was then time to create our own wine! And so, Sierra Réalta Cellars was born.
